How you can participate

Create light bulb moments!

  1. You can participate individually or in groups.

  2. Read the Declaration of the Rights of Mother Earth, discuss it friends, colleagues, family, and classmates.
    • Imagine what the world would look like, if we would all live by this Declaration.
    • Can you learn from it?
    • Could you make a project with it?
    • How about drawing your favorite part?
    • Could you see ways to integrate some of the suggestions in your life, communities, school or town etc.?

  3. Write and/or draw a letter to the President or World Leader of your country. State why you want your country to accept and implement “The Declaration of the Rights of Mother Earth”.  We invite you to use the letter template to create a letter to your country’s leader. Go to Letter to World Leaders.
Need help finding who your World Leader is?  Visit Find your President or Head of State or Heads of State Addresses.
If you want, you can also write to a multinational company requesting that they act according to the Rights of Nature. *

  4. Create a second letter or make a copy of your World Leader letter. This letter is for the UN General Assembly at the Earth Summit.

  5. If possible, scan your letters and drawings or take a picture of them. Then submit your letters and drawings to Letters@RightsofMotherEarth.com.

  6. Collect the letters in two separate envelopes. Include one copy of the original “Declaration of the Rights of Mother Earth” and one copy of your letter (and/or illustration) in each envelope.

  7. Mail the envelopes to the following two places by 15 April 2012:
    1. Your Country’s President or World Leader

    2. The following address in Switzerland:

                              Rights Of Mother Earth
                              PO Box 88
                              6317 Oberwil b. Zug, Switzerland

This copy will be delivered by a delegation of Youth to the UN General Assembly at the Earth Summit 2012.

  8. Be part of the simultaneous broadcast of the Earth Summit 2012/Rio+20, either by joining a “Mini-Earth Summit” gathering or by organizing one your self.  This way you can be part of the historical moment when the  letters are delivered to the UN General Assembly.  It will be a joyous celebration.  (Time and date will be communicated on www.RightsofMotherEarth.com.)

  9. Use the fun guide with the suggestions of what you can do to care for Mother Earth and/or create your own actions you would love to do. Organize your own community activities for caring for Mother Earth if you like.

  10. Share your ideas on www.RightsofMotherEarth.com or via facebook at Rights of Mother Earth.

  11. Have fun, be creative!
